The African American Council of Elders ~ Wichita/Sedgwick County

Our Vision …

[To be] an inclusive organization, rooted in our African heritage and traditions, which offers its accumulated wisdom, guidance, experience and spiritual insight to provide leadership, to develop, improve and enrich our community.

 Our Mission …

To provide advice and guidance to the community and to organizations serving the community, for the betterment of the community. To act as a sounding board and a resource for community issues, and to offer reasoned solutions to the problems that affect our community.

Believing that education is the intergenerational transmission of the wisdom of the ancestors, which begins with the original message from the Creator to speak truth and to do justice, The Council of Elders is a circle of men and women elders of African American or other African lineage.  The Council of Elders is rooted in the seven principles of Kwanzaa- to advance the collective well being of African Americans and other peoples of African lineage in Wichita/Sedgwick County, Kansas.

The Council also serves as a spiritual and ethical accountability resource for the Black community by building on the historical legacy as a people setting the moral and progressive agenda.
